Anglers Afloat Competition Winner!

Ewart ran  a quick off the cuff competition on Anglers Afloat this afternoon. Just for a bit of fun and to give some freebies away. "Like this" "Share that" Tag to win kind of nonsense. Just the first to send in a pic of your best catch so far this year.
The inbox was buzzing in no time at all (not even time for a cuppa) with pictures of fish.

1st place with a record response time. Lofty with a 10lb Cod. His first ever so not a bad effort.
Caught at night off  his Ocean Kayak Ultra 4.7 xt  in Poole bay on a squid and maccy rigged Pennel.
(He also let us know that the Typhoon Ps220 was from us and he enjoyed the grub at the deli next door! )

We have sent Lofty a Pyranha cap, key ring and Sticker.

Next in, just 11mins behind was Cameron with this lovely Dace. Less than an inch shy of the British record length. So rightfully proud of this one. Good effort. Going by the reel it looks like it could have been caught on the fly?

A cracking Thornback Ray from Andy Money.

And where would we be in a kayak fishing comp without a Bass. This one from John was his first ever Lure caught fish!

Stay tuned to the Anglers Afloat forum for all your Kayak fishing events and meets. Its a great place to meet other anglers and paddlers to get and share information.

First Surf? - New waves on the Exe

Big water levels always throw up potential new spots for paddling. River features change, new features appear so its time to go searching.

Ex Exeter local now residing in the Thames Valley an the Current British Freestyle league Champion Sam Anderson went in search of new waves to play on.
Roger and Ewart had seen this wave before but at slightly lower levels but had never given it a go before. the consequence of a swim is not too high as there are no features behind it but you can never be sure. At lower levels the feature that would appear in the same place is very nasty.

But as we said, Sam is the British Freestyle Champion so he knows what he's doing. Do not try this at home!

Check out the rest of his photos of the first surf here:

Ewart has also been off hunting for new waves and has found another potential unriden wave less than a mile away from Flower Pots. More on that soon......

Photo mayhem!

A nice random selection of photos. Mostly of the A.S Crew and a few other locals and friends.
Above: Exeter Canoe Club member Alex Warren gets his urban freestyle thang on!  Love this pic. Energy, fun and colour. Exactly what play boating is all about. Doing fun things in kayaks any where you want.

Capt'n Jim "the Swim"  He doesn't actually swim. Just likes getting wet. We salute you sir!

There was a time when Ewart went kayaking. It was many moons ago before the
perils of getting old grabbed him.

One of our closest beaches and a great place for easy fun paddling, who ever you are. Amber and Emma enjoy some summer sit on fun at Teignmouth back beach. followed by a BBQ on the beach. Lush.

Ah, Family Bewsey. L-R Mitch, Louise and Dan. What is it they say about a family that paddles together?
I think it is they have fun together!

Gone for now, back in the spring. A.S super coach Liam during a sit on top safety day with Andy Benham.
Anchors during kayak fishing are not to be messed with and require some good knowledge. Our Sit on top safety skills course start again in the spring.

Ooh, two pictures of Ewart, how did that happen? Rio Chinqueta Spanish Pyrenees April 2012.

World class sea kayaking, Isles of Scilly.  This small group of islands off the south west of the UK has to be on every sea kayakers bucket list. Jemma was lucky enough to go with local coach Mike Bradford in 2011.

More local touring fun. Teign Estuary. Paddle down from Newton Abbot.

Ewart's mate Sam gets in on the action. More Teignmouth, there's a theme appearing here.  (above) and SUP paddling on the Canal (below).

We like these random photo blogs more to come.
